How to attach name labels correctly
To help your name labels stay firmly in place for as long as possible, it is important to attach them correctly.
Step 1
Take care when peeling a name label off the sheet, as it can easily be damaged. Use the pad of your finger rather than your fingernail. Pay particular attention to the corners, as these are the most vulnerable parts of the label. The corners can easily be damaged if you use your fingernail instead of your finger pad when peeling off the label (see image 1).
Step 2
Choose a suitable place to attach the name label. How well it sticks varies considerably depending on the surface. In general, the less stretchy the surface, the better the label will stick. On clothing, name labels should therefore be attached to the care label or another garment label, rather than directly to the fabric. The surface should be as smooth as possible to prevent the adhesive from coming loose. Name labels will come off if attached directly to wool or other soft, stretchy fabrics. Also make sure the entire name label fits on the garment label without folding it around the edge. Otherwise, it can easily come off (see image 2).
Step 3
Attach the name label to a dry, clean surface. Press it firmly into place and make sure it is not folded or creased in any way. Folds and creases reduce adhesion because parts of the label may not make full contact with the surface. Wait at least 24 hours before washing the garment or item.
Please note
If you want to attach name labels directly to fabric or clothing, choose sew-on name labels rather than the self-adhesive labels we offer.
